Aftercare INSTRUCTIONS for Piercings

- Clean your piercing with a sterile saline wound wash spray 2-3 times a day for the first month. After the first month, use it once a day until the piercing is fully healed. Do not use any other products to take care of your piercing.
- One of the times the spray should be used is after taking a shower. Do not wash any piercings directly with soap. Rinse your piercings very well with warm water right before getting out of the shower and then use your sterile saline spray to spray the entrance and exit of your piercings. Afterwards, air dry the piercings with a hair dryer on the low/cool setting or by fanning the area with something to get rid of any excess moisture which can lead to irritation. The warm water from the shower and pressure from the spray will be what removes any discharge from the piercings.
- For oral piercings, sterile saline spray should only be used to clean the exterior of the piercing. Rinse your mouth with clean bottled water after eating, drinking, smoking, etc. Maintain good oral hygiene as usual, but avoid any whitening products or alcohol-based mouthwashes.
- No q-tips, cotton balls, or towels to directly clean piercings. No products other than the sterile saline wound wash spray should come in contact with piercings.
- No swimming or submerging with a new piercing for the first 6-8 weeks; no pools, bathtubs, hot tubs, oceans, saunas, etc.
- Do not touch any healing piercings. No picking off discharge, spinning, pushing around, or removing jewelry. Jewelry should aways be worn for as long as you want to have the piercing.
- No direct pressure should be applied to piercings while healing. This can lead to irritation or the piercing healing at an angle and this cannot be fixed. Avoid sleeping on your piercing as much as possible. The pressure from sleeping on your piercing can cause it to heal at an angle. We recommend sleeping with your ear in the hole of a thick airplane neck pillow to help relieve pressure on ear piercings if you are a side sleeper.
- In four-six weeks, you should reach out to your piercer via Instagram or stop by the shop (any day between 1:00-7:30 pm) to see if you are ready for downsizing. Most people need at least one downsize, but sometimes additional downsizing is necessary. Fresh piercings require jewelry with extra room for initial swelling. After about four-six weeks, swelling goes down and a shorter piece of jewelry is necessary to ensure that the initial piece doesn’t cause irritation by moving around or getting snagged. We are just replacing the piece of jewelry that goes through the piercing channel (hardware); decorative ends can continue to be worn. New hardware pieces are typically $20-$40 each depending upon the style and there is a $10 fee for the first installation and $5 for each successive installation. The jewelry is an implant grade material and has a lifetime warranty against all manufacturer’s defaults. A professional can help change jewelry with new jewelry purchased from Studio 28 or another verified quality studio as early as one month. Do not change any jewelry on your own or change to a different style of jewelry until the piercings are fully healed.
